Supplement Showdown: What’s Worth Your Money?
Buying Supplements Can Be An Overwhelming Experience 😱
Most supplements don’t work, and the ones that do… well, the effects are often minimal.
As a Sports Nutritionist, I’m constantly baffled by the ineffective products flooding the market. They’re marketed as high-quality, but the research often tells a different story.
Take L-Carnitine, a popular fat loss supplement as an example.
While it can help convert fat into energy, the impact is usually negligible (the scientific term for a bee’s dick amount 🐝). Studies showing modest weight loss results (less than 1kg) often involve other factors like DRUGS, DIET and EXERCISE INTERVENTIONS… But it was the carnitine did it 😉
Yet, you’ll still find it on the shelves for sale (be being purchased by the bucket-loads every day)
I believe supplements have a place, but there’s too much misinformation out there.
(Side note: That’s why we created our new company MESO Nutrition, coming soon…)
So, are all supplements a scam?
Nah, not necessarily. Some can actually be helpful. But have to know what you’re looking for, what suits you and where you are in your training/nutrition/supplement journey.
That’s where this guide comes in.
The 3 Tiers of Supplements
We’ve categorized supplements into three tiers based on their effectiveness and value for the “everyday athlete”:
- Meets the Hype: These supplements have some science behind them and can be helpful for certain individuals.
- Possibly Useful: These supplements may offer some benefits, but they’re not essential for most people.
- Save Your Cash: These supplements are generally a waste of money and offer little to no benefit (at least for the everyday person).
The Bottom Line
Supplements can be helpful, but only if you use them strategically. Focus on your training and nutrition first. Still feeling lost? We’re here to help you cut through the BS.
