Your Hips Are Lying: Hip Mobility Matters!
Think of warming up your hips like cooking a steak.
Rolling straight into training without a warm-up is like cooking a steak on a cold pan. It will work, but it’s going to be a shitty steak.
You gotta pre-heat the pan and lube it up first!
But seriously, your hips are tight. Think of them as a rusty hinge: stiff, creaky, and not doing its job properly. This tightness can lead to pain, poor posture, and even injuries.
Why Your Hip Mobility Matters
Your hips are essential for many everyday movements, from walking and running to squatting and bending. When your hips are tight, it can limit your range of motion and make these movements more difficult and even painful. Tight hips can also lead to poor posture and it’s a pretty common reason for many peoples back pain!
In addition to everyday activities, hip mobility is also important for athletic performance. Tight hips can limit your ability to generate power and speed, and can increase your risk of injury.
4 Moves To Improve Your Hip Mobility
Regular stretching and mobility exercises are one of the best ways to improve hip mobility. Here are a few of our favourites:
Glute Stretch – Wall Supported
3 sets of 20-second holds per side.
T-Spine Rotation – Wall Supported
2 sets of 8 reps per side
Frog Stretch
2 sets of 10 reps
Figure 4 Rotations
2 sets of 10 reps per side
Bonus Tips for Improving Hip Mobility (because you’ve read this far! You deserve it 😉)
Be patient. It takes time and consistency to improve mobility.
Listen to your body. Don’t push yourself too hard, especially when you’re first starting. Aim to hit a 5-6/10 discomfort rating on all these. No bonus points for pain tolerance!
Make it a habit. Aim to do some hip mobility exercises every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. The magic in this stuff is doing it PRIOR to your lifting, gain that range and ‘lock it down’ with you strength exercises.
